Golden Birch Trees

Yesterday was a good day to get some painting done. Autumn is going to be here before you know it - in fact, some trees have already started turning here! That seems earlier than ever to me. 

This painting is inspired by that lovely shade of gold that the birch tree leaves turn in autumn. Measures approximately 14″ x 11″.

Sketchbook Page - Mountains

I painted this in my watercolor sketchbook last October while I was in the Adirondacks. It was a beautiful day, so it was the perfect opportunity to sit on the peak of Whiteface Mountain and do some paintings of the surrounding view. I consider myself lucky to live in Central New York, because I have access to so much beautiful scenery with the Finger Lakes and the Adirondacks.

While I was looking through my sketchbooks this week, I realized I have several pages from the Adirondacks that I've never posted here, and with autumn rapidly approaching I thought that this would be the perfect time to share them. You can expect to see more of this variety over the next few days.

Fox In The Leaves

This weekend, I finished putting together a new piece of autumn inspired art.  Autumn is my favorite season - the smells, the food, the colors!  I love everything about this time of year.  This illustration is a sort of seasonal companion piece to Rabbits In The Garden.  

The illustration is available for sale through my Society6 shop.  I think that it looks especially nice on the tote bags and pillows.  Speaking of tote bags, the design style for the printing of the bags has been upgraded so that the print now fills the whole side of the bag instead of printing on the off-white canvas color like before.  I think the change is a big upgrade and love how it looks.

A watercolor painting of an autumn leaf, inspired by a trip to Vermont. The painting measures approximately 10" x 8" and is going to be given to my dad for his birthday during Thanksgiving weekend.

Sketchbook Page - Erie Canal

It was finally sunny yesterday, after about a week of cold and rainy weather. To take advantage of the day of sunshine, Jeff and I went to the Erie Canal area in Pittsford and did a little bit of sketching. Below is a sketch from my Moleskine sketchbook, done with a ballpoint pen. Also, if you find yourself in Pittsford, I highly recommend stopping by The Coal Tower restaurant for their seasonal pumpkin soup - it's delicious!

Leaf

I sketched this leaf in my Moleskine notebook during my watercolor class yesterday (hence the wrinkled paper) with brown Micron pens and watercolor. I love my Moleskine sketchbooks.

This painting is from my class work for the watercolor studio that I'm in this semester. I'm working hard at trying to improve my watercolor skills, and so far I feel like I've been doing pretty well with trying to apply what I'm learning in the class.

Jack-O-Lanterns

I carved a pumpkin yesterday, and it was probably the most last minute jack-o-lantern I've ever made. The whole pumpkin was cleaned and carved in less than forty-five minutes though, so yay for that. I had to keep things simple because I was pressed for time, so it's not nearly as elaborate as previous years' pumpkins.
