Golden Birch Trees

Yesterday was a good day to get some painting done. Autumn is going to be here before you know it - in fact, some trees have already started turning here! That seems earlier than ever to me. 

This painting is inspired by that lovely shade of gold that the birch tree leaves turn in autumn. Measures approximately 14″ x 11″.

Adirondack Sketchbook Pages

Here are a few recent Adirondack pages from my travel size drawing and watercolor sketchbooks. These were all done outside on location, mostly in the Big Moose Lake and Eagle Bay area.

Duck

This 8"x10" watercolor painting was done as a wedding gift for some friends of mine. They have an awesome home where they have lots of ducks and chickens, so I thought a painting of one of their animals would be a fun gift.

Misty Lake Morning

I recently spent a week in the Adirondacks at Big Moose Lake in the Eagle Bay area and had a chance to do some watercolor and sketchbook work. This painting was done out there and is based on a lovely misty morning at the lake. The size of this painting is 11"x14".

Whiteface at Sunset

"Whiteface at Sunset", acrylic paint on canvas, two panels each measuring 24" x 30". 

This painting is inspired by a winter view of Whiteface Mountain at sunset in the Adirondacks. The mountain really does turn the most lovely shades of pink and violet when the sun is going down.

"View from Whiteface", 36" x 24" acrylic paint on canvas. This large landscape painting shows the view of Lake Placid from the top of Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks.

Acadia

"Acadia", 12" x 12" acrylic paint on wood.

This painting is inspired by photographs that I took at Acadia National Park in Maine last summer. I've been trying to challenge myself to loosen up a bit in my paintings, since lately I find myself drawn much more to paintings with texture than paintings that are super photo realistic. To help myself loosen up, I've been practicing working more with a palette knife than a brush, and I really like the direction it's been taking me.

Murmuration

A colorful new digital piece from this summer, titled "Murmuration", 24"x18".

This new piece is inspired by flocks of starlings, or a murmuration of starlings. It is available right here in my shop on prints and products from my shop.

This piece is titled "Aquatics" and measuring 18" x 24", and was made with Photoshop and Illustrator.

Friends of St. Regis Mountain Fire Tower

Back in June, I entered a contest to design  a patch for the Friends of St. Regis Mountain Fire Tower, and I'm happy to announce that I won!  I've been having a lot of fun collecting patches for the mountains I've climbed in the Adirondacks, and I'm so excited that I get to add something I designed to that collection.

It is now available as a 3" embroidered patch if you make a $5 donation through the Friends of St. Regis website. Any donations are tax deductible, and the money goes towards the restoration and maintenance of the fire tower and the accompanying trails.

Tufted Titmouse

"Tufted Titmouse" is an acrylic painting on masonite board, measuring 8" x 8".

The original painting sold earlier this summer through silent auction at the annual Art on the Porches event, through the 40 Below's Public Arts Task Force. At the end of the auction half of the proceeds went to the artist and the other half will go to the Art On The Porches Scholarship Fund and the Public Arts Task Force. It was a great event as always!
