Judgment

I should have been doing homework, but I did this instead. It's been waaaaay too long since I had time to just play with art that wasn't related to school. I'd gotten an idea in my head after watching the recent Lost episode "Dead Is Dead" and had scribbled out some thumbnail sketches in my notebook during class in the evening. This week off from school seemed like the perfect opportunity to do some art for fun, and I had some digital painting techniques I wanted to mess around with, so Ben got to be my test subject.

This originally started out as a dark brown and white colored pencil drawing on gray Canson paper and gradually morphed into this as I started painting it in Photoshop. The textures used in this digital painting are a combination of ones I made on my own (by painting and scanning ink washes on watercolor paper) and textures from CG Textures. The final picture measures 9" x 12".

EDIT: This picture received a Daily Deviation award on deviantArt - what an exciting surprise!

Lost Character Art - Ben

Yet another Lost portrait. Benjamin Linus is an extremely interesting character, and people keep asking me to draw him, so voila!

Oh Benry. He's so crazy.

As before, I drew this with brown and white pencil on brown toned paper and then did all of the coloring in photoshop with my tablet.

You can see more of my Lost pictures right here.

Before and After

I thought it would be fun to share some behind the scenes stuff for the Lost portraits that I've been making lately. On the left you can see the plain pencil work and on the right you can see how it looks once I've scanned the drawing in and gone about digitally painting it. I find that even if I'm planning on completing a picture digitally it still helps to start with some kind of a base on paper, whether the base image is done with pencils, watercolors, ink, or some other medium.

Another Lost character portrait

Here's another Lost character portrait. It's about time I drew a picture of Desmond. As before, I drew this with brown and white pencil on brown toned paper and then did all of the coloring in photoshop with my tablet. More of my Lost related art can be found right here.

More Lost Art

Here's another Lost character portrait. I've been wanting to draw Locke for a while now because not only is he a really interesting character, but his facial features are just a lot of fun. His bald head and wrinkly eyes are just asking to be drawn. Also on my "I want to draw list" of Lost characters (in no particular order) are Desmond, Hurley, Rousseau, Juliet, and Sayid. As before, I drew this with brown and white pencil on brown toned paper and then did all of the coloring in photoshop with my tablet. More of my Lost related art can be found right here.

Lost Character Art

Basically I am terribly excited that Lost is back on TV now. I have waaaay too much fun watching that show and coming up with theories to explain what's going on (for those who do the same, Lostpedia is completely addictive). I've drawn Sawyer and Charlie before, so tonight I thought I'd add Jack and Kate to the illustration roster. I'm not a huge Jack fan, but I like his picture the best out of these two. Both of these were drawn with brown and white pencil on brown paper, and then I did the rest of the coloring in Photoshop with my tablet.
