Landmark Medallion

"Landmark Medallion" 11"x14" watercolor and ink

I am one of several local artists who were invited to make artwork based on the historic Landmark Theatre in downtown Syracuse, NY. Tomorrow night, there is a big fundraising gala where this painting, as well as the work by the other artists, will be available to purchase as part of a silent auction. We are raising money to help restore the Landmark to it's original 1928 glory.

It was an honor to be invited to participate in this project!

Tufted Titmouse

"Tufted Titmouse" is an acrylic painting on masonite board, measuring 8" x 8".

The original painting sold earlier this summer through silent auction at the annual Art on the Porches event, through the 40 Below's Public Arts Task Force. At the end of the auction half of the proceeds went to the artist and the other half will go to the Art On The Porches Scholarship Fund and the Public Arts Task Force. It was a great event as always!

Eastern Bluebird and American Robin

Two new paintings! The first one is "Eastern Bluebird" and the second one is "American Robin". They are both 8" x 8" acrylic paintings on masonite board.

These two new paintings are actually available for sale this weekend at the AmericCU Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival! I painted them this week for a silent auction fundraiser that is being held by 40 Below's Public Arts Task Force.

The price of each painting will start at $20, and at the end of the auction half of the proceeds will go to the artist and the other half will go to the Downtown Committee of Syracuse and the Public Arts Task Force. It's going to be a great event, so be sure to stop by!

The AmeriCU Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival runs from Friday 7/29 - Sunday 7/31, 10 AM to 5 PM.

The Everson Museum 60/60

I am happy to announce that I will be participating in The Everson Museum's 60/60 again this year!  The event is on Friday, June 19 from 5:30-7:00 pm. 60 artists have 60 minutes to create a piece of art. Viewers attending the event can mingle with the artists and listen to live music while enjoying complimentary refreshments and a cash bar. They can also enter several drawings to win a chance to take home one of the 60 pieces of art with them! Tickets are $40 in advance or $60 at the door.

Photos from the Everson Museum 60/60

The 60/60 Show at the Everson Museum went really well last night! I had a lot of fun participating and I think that I will probably sign up for it again next year.  

In order to make sure that I could finish my watercolor painting in the sixty minute time period, I penciled out the picture ahead of time.  I also used masking fluid to block out the areas I wanted to stay white and painted the blue eggs.  That way, I could focus on the browns and yellows for the nest without worrying about my colors bleeding together and turning green.  Sixty minutes goes by fast, so the set up that I did ahead of time turned out to be essential.  

Here is the painting that I made at the show.  It measured approximately 10" x 10".

This was my work area.  I had also brought an extension cord and a hair dryer to help speed along the drying process so that I could make sure that I finished the painting in time.

I had a decent amount of tickets in my bucket by the time they were ready to pull the raffle winners.

The raffle winners with my painting.  The woman was very happy that she won, stating that she is a bird enthusiast.  

60/60 at the Everson Museum

Tomorrow, June 20, I will be one of sixty artists participating in the 60/60 Event at the Everson Museum.  Sixty local artists will have sixty minutes to complete a piece of artwork, which is then raffled off in a fundraiser to benefit the Everson Museum.

The event runs from 5:30 to 7:00pm, with the raffle for the artwork occurring at 6:30 pm.  While the artists are creating their artwork, guests are invited to enjoy the complimentary hors d'ouevres, a cash bar, and live music.  Tickets are $30 per person/$45 per patron, and tickets will still be available for sale at the door.

I will be painting with watercolor, but you'll have to come to the event to see what it is!  This event is a new thing for me, so it should be an interesting experience.
