The Frog Prince - New Image & Prints

First impressions are very important. ;)

I've invested more time in this picture than probably any other picture that I've ever worked on. I really wanted to push my digital painting skills this time, and I'm really happy with the way this picture turned out.

It's based on the fairy tale The Frog Prince. I wanted it to look like a traditional fairy tale picture, but with a bit of humor in it as well. I took my own reference photos for the princess - I actually dressed up and set the timer on my camera and posed, since no one else was around at the moment I got the idea for this picture. I painted it all in Photoshop with my tablet. It took countless hours to get this picture to a point where I was happy with it, but it was all worth it. ;)

Prints of this picture are now available!

Wallpaper sized versions are also available for download via my DA gallery. The sizes are as follows:
- 1024x768 (can be sized down for 800x600)
- 1280x1024

Wouldn't it be loverly?

I watched My Fair Lady the other night, which left me wanting to draw that giant hat.

Sneak Preview

Here's a little preview of a large digital painting that I've been working on in Photoshop. I'm hoping to finish up the whole thing this week, I just have to get the level of detail to a point that I'll be satisfied with. It's based on a fairy tale, but I'll leave you guessing as to which one until I post the finished picture. ;)

Our Lady of the Seven Seas & Never - Prints

I've been doing a lot of updating of my print shop lately, just making things available in more sizes and whatnot. These are the two latest illustrations to be updated in my print shop.

This picture is called Our Lady of the Seven Seas.

And this picture is titled Never.

Pirates are fun.

Miss Bennet?

I was watching Smallville the other night on TV, and because it wasn't the best episode ever I wound up playing with my sketchbook while watching. My Pride & Prejudice DVD was lying around, so I was sort of looking at that while drawing this picture.

Southern Moonlight - Prints

The painting Southern Moonlight has been updated with some new print size options in my print shop.

I'm still getting this new sketch blog organized, but I think I'm going to like working with this new format. I just started it for the first time on Wednesday, but already it's a lot simpler to update than my older sketch blog. I'm going to be leaving my old sketch blog up there for now as a way to archive my old posts. I don't really want to delete those off the net yet, so they'll stay up until this sketch blog has enough decent content.

Beauty and the Beast - Prints & Progress

The illustration Beauty and the Beast has been updated with some new print size options in my print shop. A colored version of this is also in the works. Here's what it looks like so far. The original image was drawn with ink and painted over with light ink washes, but all of the coloring is being done digitally.

Page and Plant - Prints

The painting Page and Plant has been updated with some new print size options in my print shop.

Bono Vox - Prints

Just a quick post to say that Bono Vox has been updated in my print shop.

Bloomsbury Square Gardens - Sketch

I'm trying to get back in the habit of drawing in an actual sketchbook more, so I carried a medium sized sketchbook and pencils in my bag while walking around London. I did some sketching, but nothing too terribly interesting came out of it. This is really the only sketch from there that I feel like sharing, so here's one that came from having lunch in the park.

I did buy a small watercolor sketchbook and a travel watercolor set while I was in London, so hopefully I'll be trying my hand at sketching with watercolors more often as well.

Falconer - Sketch

I flew to London recently. It was a long flight, so I decided to try sketching a falconer who was in the airplane magazine.
